Had a nightmare with a system restore.

Had to reinstall Twine.
Harlowe works but my versions of Sugarcube are all corrupted. I can't run them nor can I reinstall as it thinks they are already installed.

The story format at ... could not be added (this story format is already installed).

Does anyone know how to remove the corrupted files? I've tried uninstalling Twine and deleting the files but maybe there are more better hidden?

Help!

You probably either need to update your version of SugarCube (Twine currently comes with an old version), set the Story Format in the game, or both.

You can get the latest version of SugarCube from here (which was just updated two days ago to v2.28.2), and then follow the installation instructions here.  If you want to get rid of a story format so you can reload it, first go the the story format window from the main Twine page, then select any other story format, and now you can click the "trashcan" icon to remove that format.

Also, sometimes Twine fails to set the story format properly, so you have to manually set it to the correct story format in each story.

If you're feeling a bit adventurous you could try out the Twine 2.3.0 beta-1 version, which has some major internal changes, including switching from using the nw.js engine to Electron.  That said, it is a beta release, so it might have other issues.

There are other less likely problems, so let us know if that doesn't work, but the above will probably do the trick.

Thanks but the suggestions are all failing as I've tried them all, except for the experimental option.

Hmmm.

If I knew where Twine installed the archive files I'd be able to get the Sugarcube 2.2.1 versions removed properly, as it is the uninstall to reinstall Twine just isn't cleanly removing everything.

The only Sugarcube version it even runs is the very earliest version 1.0.35 currently.

You can't remove SugarCube v2.21.0 from Twine v2.2.1 because it's built into it, though it may be hidden by newer versions.  You just need to upgrade.

Perhaps you missed my edit above, but as I mentioned there, "If you want to get rid of a story format so you can reload it, first go the the story format window from the main Twine page, then select any other story format, and now you can click the "trashcan" icon to remove that format."  You may want to close and then re-open Twine after you remove a format.

If that doesn't work, try closing Twine, going to your "C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\Twine" directory and rename the "User Data" folder to something else.  Then try opening Twine to see if that fixed your problems.  If so, you can delete that renamed "User Data" folder.

Hope that helps!  :-)

Thanks, the AppData method fixed the issue.
