So this is an issue with every single Twine game I have currently in my hard drive. Which is quite alot. Effectively, loading in a save file does nothing. It will refresh the webpage, do a little loading circle and then bam, my saves are still left completely blank.

I've tried different browsers, I've tried testing several different games as well and the same issue occurs. I even tried switching off Ubuntu and loading my saves through Windows 10. I don't believe it's save file corruption, as this is happening accross the board no matter what game I attempt to archive.

I really hope there is still a way for me to import my save files as I spend a lot of time playing Twine based games. And it's why developement in Twine is one of my side hobbies. (Though I haven't actually released a game yet.)

Are you referring to loading a disk-based save into a SugarCube-based game or the Twine 2 application itself loading your project data?  You really should be clearer.  The title of this question mentions a Load from Disk button, so I'm going to assume the former for now.

If you're referring to loading a disk-based save into a SugarCube-based game—via Load from Disk, assuming the author didn't change the text—then that's not how it works, at all.  The Save to Disk feature—again, assuming it wasn't renamed by the author—does not export the contents of the save slots to disk, rather it exports a single save state to disk—i.e., the equivalent of saving to a slot.  Conversely, Load from Disk imports a single save state from disk—i.e., the equivalent of loading from a slot.  Thus, if you want multiple disk-based saves, then you have to save multiple times—to different files.

I'm sorry about the confusion and I'll clearify my question. Basically, I'm trying to load the contents of my save files from disk. And it doesn't seem to work properly. What happened in the past is that I would save to disk, it would create a .save file like normal. Then I could hit load from disk and it would transfer my save data for that game from the save file to the game itself.

Honestly, the wording is terrible. "Save from disk" and "load from disk" can both be easily confused as an archive button. In fact, I've thought this was the case as long as I can remember because of the wording. If it's a save state, then why doesn't it say "save state" and "load state" which is the official termology for save states.

For example, load up one of the hundreds of console emulators. They all use the termology "save state" and "load state." Because it makes perfect sense and is way more user friendly.

So I'm going to guess that there is no way to recover my files which honestly sucks. This entire issue could've been avoided if Twine didn't use bizzare termology that makes zero logical sense in a practical user friendly evironment.

They aren't "save states". They're normal saves. Basically, you can save to a local storage save slot that's held in your browser, or save to disk. When you do the latter, you're making a normal save, exactly like the ones that go in the slots, except its on your disk. It sounds like you thought it was an export button, which it isn't.

PaddedGamer, the loss of your saves is unfortunate and regrettable.  You have my sympathies.

That said, I feel the need to clarify some things.

Assuming you mean importing/exporting slots, SugarCube's disk-based save feature has never worked that way.  It has only ever made/loaded a single save.

I don't know what you think you're remembering, but it is not, literally cannot, be this.

Do not conflate what an emulator is doing there, saving a snapshot of the game's memory state, with a game's normal built-in save mechanism.  SugarCube's disk-based save feature makes/loads a normal save—and, as noted above, has always done so.

As far as the terminology goes.  The button's labels do not mention anything—e.g., slots, importing, exporting, archiving, etc.—that would suggest they work in the way you thought.

HiEv > […] (Especially considering that in the buttons' icons, the save button has an arrow pointing down to a drive, indicating that the list above goes to the drive, and the load button icon has an arrow pointing from the drive up to the save slots above.)

The buttons use fairly standard to/from disk icons—exactly similar to to/from cloud icons.  Their arrows denote the direction of data flow and have no relation to anything around them.

The idea that the arrows are referring to something on the page is, frankly, ludicrous.  I say that not to be dismissive, but because icons of that type have been in use for many years now and their meanings should be well understood by this point.
